Grands ensembles, a legacy?

The French collective housing estates built during the period of economic growth (1955-1975) have been the subject of massive destruction for several decades. These architectures are discredited to the point that these destructions now affect sets described as exemplary in their time. The forms of these architectures are nevertheless those of a production of inventive components, of technological innovation and of new materials in the dynamic context of renewal of the plastic arts and the human sciences. These architectures inherit forty years of systematic denigration that provoke conflict situations in which the importance of representations in patrimonial issues is read.

The program is supported by the French Institut in Budapest.
