DANUBE DAYS // Esztergom-Párkány // 07.29-30.

dunanapok_FB_URB-B-1000x200

On June 29, 2017, all countries along the Danube celebrate the significance and majesty of this European river by various activities and accompanying events. The twin-cities of Štúrovo and Esztergom are no exception. Join us and celebrate the Danube through culture, the main topic of our EU-funded DANUrB project!

Culture is what makes us different, but unique. However, it brings people together. As part of social relations, it is embodied in various forms – architectural monuments, traditions, customs, language, food, art, which ultimately co-create the complex and specific “genius loci” of the given site. Often we see it as a matter of course, sometimes we do not know about it. The precise identification of such cultural values is the scope of the research project DANUrB – DANUBE Urban Brand, financed by Interreg’s Danube Transnational Programme 2014-2020.

The upcoming workshop will start on June 28 at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), the project Lead Partner´s home university, where discussions on research objectives will take place.

However, at the core of the 3-day meeting is the international Danube Day on June 29 and accompanying various activities and events. Visitors to Štúrovo and Esztergom cities can enjoy a rich program that showcases events such as cooking traditional fish soup – halászlé, concerts, photo exhibition or an exhibition presenting the work of four generations of the Feiglers family – architects who have been active during the 19th century on both banks of the Danube River. In the context of the project which aims to create a “Cultural promenade” – a regional network of significant Danube cultural heritage – students will present their studio works linked to sites along the river in four countries including diploma designs in a virtual reality setting.

This interesting program also gives you the opportunity to engage in discussions with project partners, meet a wide range of stakeholders from 7 participating countries or to interview the authors of the interventions about what led them to design such solutions in these urban areas.

Do not miss this unique opportunity and kickstart your summer with fun and celebrations on the Danube River.
