Doconf / Facing Post-Socialist Urban Heritage
The international urban design conference DOCONF / “Facing Post-Socialist Urban Heritage” will be held again on October 9-11, 2025, organized by the Department of Urban Planning and Design, BME Budapest. At the conference, young doctoral researchers will present the recent challenges of post-socialist urban heritage. The detailed program can be found on the conference website:

Keynote speech by Prof. Richard KLEIN HDR / Head of DOCOMOMO France, ENSAP Lille: Facing the Environmental Challenge. Innovation Models and the “Remarkable Contemporary Architecture Label” in France
DOCONF 2025 will also further strengthen Franco-Hungarian cooperation, as the opening speech of the event will be given by Richard Klein, Professor Emeritus of the Lille School of Architecture, a recognized international expert on modern architectural heritage, and President of the French association DOCOMOMO. In his speech, he will discuss the French innovative models that sought to renew the mass housing construction of the 1970s, as well as their architectural and social consequences. He will introduce the new category of the French monument classification system, “Outstanding Contemporary Architectural Work”. Essential thoughts will be expressed on the value and future of modern cultural heritage in the light of the current challenges of sustainability and the energy transition. The presentation will be in English, without interpretation.
